We build SEO software. So when we say we have spent time inside every major SEO tool on the market — we mean it.
This is not a roundup written from a features page. We actually used these tools, ran audits, compared outputs, and noted what each one does well and where it falls short.
One thing became clear very quickly.
Most SEO tools are excellent at finding problems. Almost none of them are good at telling you how to fix them.
That gap — between knowing what is wrong and knowing what to do about it — is where most website owners get stuck. And it is what drove us to build climbrk.
Here is everything we found.

The question most comparisons get wrong
Every SEO tool comparison asks the same question: which tool has the most features?
That is the wrong question.
The right question is: which tool actually helps you rank higher?
Those are not the same thing.
A tool that gives you a 47-point audit report with no clear next action is less valuable than a tool that finds 10 issues and tells you exactly what to change on each page.
Most SEO tools show you the problem. Very few tell you how to fix it.
We evaluated every tool with that lens. Not features. Results.

Google Search Console
Price: Free
Start here. Always. Before any paid tool.
Google Search Console is the only tool in this list that gives you data straight from Google. Not estimates. Not modelled data. The actual numbers Google uses to rank your pages.
It shows you what is indexed, what is getting impressions, what is getting clicks, and what has crawl errors. If you have not set it up yet — stop reading and do that first.
The honest limitation is that it shows you the problem without pointing you to the solution. Your click through rate is low. Your page has a coverage error. Now what? Search Console will not tell you.
Use it for: Understanding what Google actually sees on your site. Irreplaceable and free.
Do not expect: Any guidance on what to fix or how to fix it.
Semrush
Price: $139.95/month · $117.33/month annual · 7-day free trial
Let us be direct about Semrush. It is a genuinely excellent tool. It is also genuinely expensive and built for people who do SEO for a living.
At $139.95/month you are paying more than most Indian SEO freelancers charge per month. For an individual or a small business — that math rarely works.
What you get for that price is impressive. The keyword database is the largest in the industry. The competitor intelligence is deep and genuinely useful for agencies managing large campaigns. The backlink tracking is solid. The site audit is thorough.
In 2026 Semrush added AI visibility tracking — monitoring your presence in Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity. For large brands thinking about AI search presence this matters. For most websites it is a feature you will never use.
The thing Semrush does not do — and this is true of almost every tool in this list — is tell you specifically what to fix on a specific page. It finds the issue. It categorises it. You still have to figure out the solution yourself.
Use it for: Enterprise SEO operations. Agencies managing multiple large clients. Teams with a dedicated SEO professional.
Skip it if: You are an individual, a small business, or a startup. The price and complexity will work against you.
Ahrefs
Price: $29/month (Starter — limited) · $129/month (Lite) · $108/month (Lite, annual) · No free trial
Something worth knowing about Ahrefs in 2026 that most comparisons miss.
Ahrefs introduced a Starter plan at $29/month. It sounds like the entry point but it is heavily restricted — one project, limited credits, not suitable for ongoing work.
The Lite plan at $129/month is the first plan worth using seriously. That puts Ahrefs in the same price range as Semrush — which changes the conversation significantly.
What justifies the price is the backlink database. 42 billion keywords. The strongest backlink data in the industry. If competitive analysis and link building are core to your strategy — Ahrefs is the best tool for that job regardless of price.
There is no free trial. You are committing money before you can properly evaluate whether it fits your workflow. That is a real barrier compared to tools that let you test first.
And like Semrush — Ahrefs finds issues. It does not fix them.
Use it for: Backlink research. Competitive analysis. Content gap analysis. The $29 Starter is worth trying to see if the interface works for you.
Skip it if: You need to understand what to change on your site. Ahrefs will give you data. Not directions.
SE Ranking
Price: $103.20/month (annual) · $129/month (monthly) · 14-day free trial
SE Ranking sits in the gap between the expensive giants and the budget tools. It does most things reasonably well without excelling at any of them.
The white label reporting is the standout feature. If you manage SEO for clients and need to send professional looking reports with your own branding — SE Ranking does this better than anything else at this price point.
The site audit is decent. The rank tracking is solid. The keyword research is functional.
The limitation is the same one we kept hitting across tools. SE Ranking tells you your heading structure is wrong. It does not tell you what the heading should say.
Use it for: Freelancers and small agencies who need rank tracking and branded client reports at a mid-range price.
Skip it if: You need actual fix guidance rather than just issue identification.

Screaming Frog
Price: Free up to 500 URLs · $259/year ($21.58/month) · Annual only
Screaming Frog is the tool that technical SEO professionals have used for a decade and will keep using because nothing else comes close for deep technical crawling.
It crawls your entire site and pulls out everything — broken links, duplicate content, missing tags, redirect chains, response codes, JavaScript rendering issues. The depth is unmatched.
The free version handles up to 500 URLs which covers most small and medium sites well.
Here is the honest reality. Screaming Frog assumes you already know SEO. It gives you a spreadsheet of everything it found. It does not explain why any of it matters. It does not prioritise what to fix first. It absolutely does not tell you what the fix should look like.
If you are not a technical SEO specialist — Screaming Frog will hand you a very thorough report you will have no idea what to do with.
Use it for: Technical SEO work on large or complex sites. If you know what you are looking for it is the best crawler available.
Skip it if: You are not already comfortable with technical SEO. The data without context will overwhelm rather than help.
Ubersuggest
Price: $29/month · $290 lifetime · 7-day free trial
Ubersuggest is the starting point for people who want keyword research without spending much.
The lifetime deal is genuinely interesting. $290 once versus $29 every month. If you plan to use any SEO tool for more than ten months — and you should — the lifetime deal makes the maths simple.
The honest limitations are real. Data quality for Indian keywords specifically is lower than Ahrefs and Semrush. The site audit is surface level. The backlink database is smaller.
Worth noting — with Ahrefs Starter now at $29/month the value case for Ubersuggest on monthly billing has weakened. Same price, and Ahrefs data quality is meaningfully better even on the restricted Starter plan.
The lifetime deal changes that calculation. $290 once is a different comparison to $29 monthly forever.
Use it for: Basic keyword research on a tight budget. The lifetime deal if you want to commit cheaply long term.
Think twice about: The monthly plan when Ahrefs Starter exists at the same price.

We built climbrk so we are obviously not a neutral voice here. What we can tell you is why we built it — because every tool we tested had the same gap.
They find the problem. They do not hand you the fix.
We audited a furniture manufacturer's website and found 91 blog pages completely missing from their sitemap. Every other tool would have flagged that as an issue. climbrk generated the complete sitemap.xml with all 91 pages included — ready to upload.
We audited a web agency's own website. 18 pages with no meta descriptions. Every other tool would have listed those 18 pages as issues. climbrk wrote a unique meta description for each of those 18 pages — matched to the content and intent of each specific page — ready to copy paste.
That is the difference.
What climbrk audits and fixes:
- Full site visibility audit — crawls every page, scores every signal, prioritises every issue with exact fixes
- Copy paste fixes — exact code for every problem. Title tags, meta descriptions, H1 tags, canonical tags. Per page, not generic
- Sitemap generator — builds your complete sitemap.xml from actual crawled pages. Download and upload. Done
- Robots.txt validator — line by line. Flags what is hurting you. Gives you a corrected version to download
- Visual crawl map — your entire site in one view. Every page colour coded by issue severity. Click any node to see its specific fixes
- Rank intelligence — not just where you rank but why, and what to change
- Cannibalization detection — pages competing against each other found automatically with the canonical fix generated
- Competitor analysis — what they have that you do not
- Weekly AI digest — every Monday. Ranking changes, top fixes, what shifted
Where it falls short: No backlink analysis yet. Smaller keyword database than Semrush and Ahrefs. Newer product with less historical data than tools that have been around a decade.
Use it for: Understanding exactly what is wrong with your site and getting the exact fix for each issue. The only tool in this comparison with Indian rupee pricing and copy paste fixes.

What we actually think
Semrush and Ahrefs are excellent at what they do. If enterprise keyword research or backlink intelligence is what you need — they are the right answer and worth the price.
For most Indian website owners they are the wrong answer. Too expensive. Too complex. And even if you can afford them and learn them — they still will not tell you how to fix what they find.
The tools that close that gap — clear action, exact fix, price that makes sense for India — are surprisingly rare.
That is the gap climbrk is built to fill.
